Essential for any detailed repair

I bought this because my focus dropped it's valve seat. This pretty common for the SOHC engine so I discovered. My engine dropped the #4 cylinder seat, which damaged the rod and piston. The cylinder wall was intact. This manual allowed me to take this apart and reassemble this at fractions of the cost that it would have been if I had a mechanic do the work. I have used it several times since this. Haynes is highly recommended as a reference for any vehicle that you have.

Beginner to Novice with some Expert jobs

This book is a must have if you own a Ford Focus. It'll save you a lot of money and time if you wish to do regular maintanence on your car. I like how this book is layed out. It even has a troubleshooting section and the causes of certain diagnostic codes which are labeled on two pages. It has a lot of novice type jobs which I'm sure can be done with a little mechanical background knowledge and this book. It even includes a general overhaul section that is described and pictured step by step. Buy this book! Only gripe I had was that it could have used more pictures.

Excellent content, but poor writing.

In terms of its content, this is definitely the best introductory text to operating system and concurrency. Unfortunately, Jean Bacon's writing style has caused tremendous headaches among her students at Cambridge. This is how one student used to put it:"Every word has its meaning, but when they were put together, they make no sense in Jean Bacon's book!" My personal experience was that I had to read the same paragraph at least 3 to 4 times in order to understand the message. In short, this book is for serious reader only. You need all the patience, and determination in order to finish reading this book. (like us, who had to answer the exam questions she set!)

Well intentioned, poorly executed

I have great respect for the author of this book, as she undoubtedly knows her stuff (hence two stars, not one), however, she would have been well advised to have employed an editor before the final draft was published. The intent of each section is lost in a fog of cross-referencing and over-explanation. Get this book if: a) It's a required text b) You're a genius with time to kill c) You're extremely patient and keen to learn d) If the latest edition has been substantially edited

Great content but hard to read

I used this book for a "Distributed Computing" college course that I taught in 1999. So I read it pretty thoroughly. Overall I can't find many errors, and I thought the range of content was excellent, very thorough. In some places she is more complete than Tanenbaum. But I had to really struggle with some of the writing. It just wasn't very clear. Her sentences tend to be very long and complex which obfuscates the meaning.

As part of their pseudo-operations, the Selous Scouts would regularly conceal themselves as member of both the major terrorist armies - ZANLA and ZIRPA - and also as soldiers of Rhodesia's neighbors - FRELIMO, the Zambian Army and the Botswana Defense Force.
The dangers of such operations are obvious. ZANLA and ZIRPA would not hesitate to instantly execute anyone that they suspected to be a Selous Scout. However, even more hair raising was the Selous Scout policy of "encouraging" recently captured terrorists ("tame" terrorists) to work for the Selous Scouts and betray their former comrades - somtimes within hours of their capture!
The methods of the Selous Scouts entailed enormous risks for the Selous Scouts operators but they also reaped enormous benefits. During the 7 years of their existence, the Selous Scouts exterminated several thousands of terrorists while losing only about 40 Selous Scouts killed in action. Intelligence gained by the Selous Scouts was also used by other units of the Rhodesian security forces, such as the Rhodesian Light Infantry, to locate and kill several thousand more terrorists.
The book is written in a humorous, lucid and almost chatty style, which contrasts sharply to most memoirs written by military men.

This book should be a mandatory read for Non-commissioned officers and Officers serving in special mission units or special operations the world over. In the counter-insurgency / low-intensity conflict arena there are many valuable lessons to be learned from this text, and for the armchair historian or casual reader the story is still gripping enough to keep you enthralled to the last page. Basically this is story of the birth and death of one of the most feared insurgency units of the time, as told by the founder of this outstanding unit; Ron Reid-Daly. It covers the units training, selection, operations, and personalities of the unit with the war being the tool that propels the story and evolution of the unit. One of the most remarkable aspects of Selous Scouts was their employment of pseudo-terrorist techniques, which were used to melt into know terrorist cells, to either eliminate the terrorist themselves or direct other assets to the known cells to be neutralized. While conducting these type operations the Selous Scouts maintained the cover of being a combat tracking (mantracking) unit, as to keep their true purpose under wraps from the rest of the Rhodesian Security Forces. I would also like to point out they were truly all trained trackers and maintained this capability to superb levels of proficiency. This book has been re-release as "Pamwe Chete - The Legend of the Selous Scouts" by Reid-Daly and is a completely revamped version of "SELOUS SCOUTS - Top Secret War" (original title). If you have read the original edition you will enjoy this one much better. Many areas in the book have been rewritten and their are many additions and details added to the text. Many of the names of individual have been added into this text, originally kept exempt for security and safety reasons in this version. Also there are many new photographs added and the Illustrations are a lot crisper. One of the biggest treats in the new edition is the added appendix covering; roll of honor, wing nominal roll, awards and citations. This version truly opens the door to this once `Top Secret" organization of combat trackers turned pseudo-terrorist specialist. Bottom line BOTH versions are GREAT reads!

To the daring and the brazen.

To be so daring, so bold. To do what no would expect and to succeed at it. Having grown up in that part of the earth during the Chimurenga War, this book brought back a lot of memories, not all good. But among them was the feeling of awe that surrounded the Selous Scouts. Different, effecient, successful. This book is a must read for not only those interested in the Rhodesian bush war, but students of strategy, students of tactics and military might, students of history, students of management & students of psychology. This book confirms what a lot of us know, but when faced with it wilt. To be commited and prepared is only a small part of success, the rest is to be daring. For me, it was a journey back to a football field a long time ago under a blue african sky with little boys, being as little boys are, playing "war". And everyone wanted to be the Selous Scout.

I have spent 10 years trying to put this tutorial together (the photos are from 2002). I returned to college in mid-life to re-learn how to write.This guide for self-movers has been the prime focus in my re-careering efforts. I believe it has been a worthwhile effort that resulted in an exceedingly useful product.

Lived up to it's Title

This book proved to be invaluable to us during our current move. Having moved ourselves before, with many problems, I found the exact information necessary to make this move a much smoother process. I learned a lot of things I had no clue about before. The tips were great and everything was well explained and easy to follow. All the bases were covered!!

Great stuff to plan your move

With the good help of an Amazon phone assistant I was able to replace the copy I had with the new 'modified'. The author did make marked improvements in presenting his book in a kindle and now I feel it has earned a 5 Star rating. Good book, good job in making the modification.

My original book review, now replaced by the comments added and upgrade in rating to 5 Stars:
Great stuff, but not properly prepared for kindle reading. The tables don't display. Photos come out as duplicates. It is hard to follow the reading as page numbers pop up in the middle of sentences and you have a hard time navigating the text. I was searching to buy a printed edition but it is only available as a kindle. I would give the text 5 Stars if I could see the tables.

Absolutely Everything you need to Know to do it Right and to Save Money

Accessible, clear, realistic and honest. I don't know about you, but having been bamboozled by Movers more than once, I was determined to find a painless and effective way to do it myself. Jerry West's book showed me exactly how. I especially appreciated his insider's view. He knows what he's talking about and he was able to transmit this wealth of knowledge to me in ways I could use. It's easy to read, but not dumbed-down he takes a complicated logistical science and makes it easy to understand and to carry out in "the real world". I think that this book will capture the attention of one of the big publishers sometime soon. Useful topic, straight-forward and correct information, well written. No downside to this book. Read, learn, and stop having moving day continue to be the endless comedy of errors that it always was in the past. I love it when things actually WORK. This book is one of those things, and thanks to it, my next move will be, too.

Been making jewelry for 12 years and many tips I didn't know. Very easy to read and follow with tons of clear photos to give examples of how to follow the techniques. A gorgeous book full of beautiful jewelry that gives many fine tips on soldering. This book makes a topic that could be deadly boring exciting and interesting and I found it extremely helpful.

Easy and beautiful

This is hands down one of the most beautifully designed And easy to follow how-to books I've seen, and it does indeed offer many great tips on soldering. What's special about it is that you have clear (and large) pictures of the steps needed, and lots of inspirational photographs to draw from. I'm so happy to have this book. Not only does it deserve to be in a jewelers library, but it could also sit on my living room coffee table for guests to leaf through!

As a former art teacher and writer of curriculum, I was very impressed with Ms. Caines comprehensive writing style. The illustrations were beautiful throughout this instructive and artistic book. I found myself wanting to create and was drawn to her straight forward and easy to understand explanations of materials and methodology. I have had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Caines' work first hand and she is extremely talented. She brings to her craft a true passion for excellence which is conveyed in both her execution and instruction. I highly recommend this beautiful book.
